SAGUARO CACTI GLOWING IN THE MORNING SUN
This scene is just outside of Tucson AZ in Sagauro National Park. The hills in the background are densly covered with the cacti. The Arizona-Sonora desert is not full of empty sand but rather is covered by dense beautiful green foliage including some trees.
A JOSHUA TREE IN THE MORNING SUN
Joshua Trees are found in the Mojave Desert in California and Nevada. The rich green foliage brightly glows in this infrared photograph.
THE BASIN AT DEATH VALLEY NATIONAL PARK
This desolate salt-laced valley is very inhospitable. A few locations such as Furnace Creek do have sufficient underground water to support hotels and associated services.
WALKING ON THE SALT CRUST NEAR BADWATER, DEATH VALLEY NATIONAL PARK
The distant mountains look deceivingly close, but the 14 mile journey is both strenuous and dangerous. This is the lowest point in the U.S. at 282 feet below sea level. The crustly salt is worn down by the many travelers walking into the valley. The 11,000 ft high Telecope Peak is snow covered in the background.
